Based on an overwhelming need identified by MIIN Network partners, MIIN has partnered with LCOOU to develop a teacher training program for Ojibwe Immersion Educators. The teacher training program is a 4-year Bachelor of Science in Education, which prepares students for a WI PreK-9 teacher licensure. The first two years consist of early childhood education course prerequisites for the B.S. Education program, along with Ojibwe language courses to prepare you for the an Ojibwe immersion classroom. The 3rd- 4th year are the B.S. Education coursework, where 50% or more of the courses will be offered through the medium of either English or Ojibwe.
As of June 2025 MIIN is partnered with Bemidji State University to develop an Ojibwe language Teacher training track licensure track for middle and high school teachers.
The Minnesota Indian Teacher Training Program (MITTP) provides scholarships to American Indian students who are pursuing any pre-K through grade 12 career in an educational setting. Bemidji State University funds available through MITTP.
